Located on a steep hillside in Tumbaco, Ecuador, Viewpoint House explores how architecture can respond to challenging terrain while establishing a continuous relationship with its natural surroundings.

The project is shaped by the site’s pronounced topography, endemic vegetation, panoramic views of the Andean landscape and valley, prevailing winds, and solar conditions.

Rather than imposing a conventional volume on the slope, these parameters inform the configuration, orientation, and positioning of the house.

The residence is organized into three floating pavilions connected by horizontal elements. A volcanic stone plinth emerges from the terrain and supports the lighter volumes above, reinforcing the perception of an architecture carefully positioned within the landscape.

The upper pavilions remain visually open and are precisely oriented to enhance connections with the surrounding views.

The relationship with nature continues throughout the interior through framed views, changing perspectives, natural light, materiality, and the interplay between horizontal and vertical planes.

These elements create a sequence of spaces in which the landscape becomes an integral part of the experience of inhabiting.

Viewpoint House proposes an architecture that adapts to its terrain rather than competing with it, creating a continuous dialogue between architecture, landscape, climate, and human experience.
