Bilbao Architecture Introduction

Bilbao is the main city in the Basque Country, north east Spain. There is a wealth of contemporary architecture in the city – such as Frank Gehry’s famous Guggenheim Museum – but also many key historic buildings. An interesting recent building is the Basque Health Department Headquarters designed by COLL-BARREU ARQUITECTOS. Also close by is the recently completed Orona IDeO in San Sebastian.

Bilbao is a municipality and city in Spain, the capital of the province of Biscay in the autonomous community of the Basque Country. With a population of around 350,000 it is the largest city of its autonomous community and the tenth largest in Spain. This Spanish city is located about 14 km south of the Bay of Biscay and is surrounded by small mountains.

Basque Architectural City Walks

Bilbao Architectural Tours can provide an overview of Basque architecture or they can focus on say just the key contemporary architecture in the city. e-architect can assist with basic advice on where a tour can go and what are the most significant buildings to see. A programme can be prepared ahead of the visit to Spain.

Our guides usually meet visitors at the start of their Spanish architecture walking tour though sometimes they can collect the group from their hotel accommodation if preferred.
