Enchanting Traces – Reflections on b720 Arquitectos’ work

The Aedes gallery dedicates an exhibition to the b720 architecture studio which can be visited until January 17th 2019 in Berlin. The Aedes Architecture Forum is one of the most prestigious galleries in the world.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of b720 Fermín Vázquez Arquitectos, with a trajectory of works that range from the Hotel VP. Plaza España (2018, Madrid), the Lycée Français (2017, Barcelona), the Torre Itaim (2017, São Paolo) and the Pavilion of Spain at the Expo Universal (2015, Milán).

This exhibition is a retrospective look at 20 years|20 projects, selected to explain the approach and working methodology of the b720 team. The centrepiece of this installation evokes a stall of the Encants Barcelona market (one of our most renown projects), which acts as the focal point of the exhibition’s discourse.

Around this ‘market’, fragments of each project have been placed on folding panels. Visitors to the exhibition will be able to reread the story of the b720 studio and relive a part of history, spanning the years of post-Olympic Barcelona to Spain before the economic downturn, passing through the Brazilian boom and the recent evolution of world architecture. We invite all visitors to approach b720’s work in multiple ways of perception and reflection.

About b720 Fermín Vázquez Architects
The studio – with headquarters in Madrid and Barcelona – focus its strategy towards an international scope. During this year, b720 celebrates its 20th anniversary, with emblematic built projects developed during those 20 years of history as the Lleida-Alguaire Airport in 2011, the ‘Mercat dels Encants’ in 2013, the Spanish Pavilion for the Universal Exposition of Milan in 2015.

As well as many other works made in collaboration with renown international architects as Jean Nouvel, David Chipperfield or Toyo Ito, with whom b720 has built projects as the Agbar Tower in 2005, the ‘Veles e Vents’ building for the America’s Cup in 2007, the Barcelona City of Justice in 2009 or the Porta Fira Towers in 2010.

Recently, b720 has built its first building in Brazil, the new ITAIM hotel tower which breaks with colour the skyline of São Paulo. With the opening of the Itaim Tower, b720 reafirms its will to continue exporting the values of innovation, sustainability and quality which identify the studio’s architecture.

At the present time, b720 will finish the construction its first dwellings building made entirely in wood in Lavapies neighbourhood in Madrid. Also in the same city, the Hotel VP project in Plaza España has recently been inaugurated.

Moreover, the b720’s team is currently working on the architectural project development for the construction of the New Camp Nou FCB Stadium, along with the prestigious japanese company Nikken Sekkei, and the refurbishment project of the Bank of Spain – Barcelona Headquarters.
