May 9th, 2018 – we are glad to share with you the latest news from RIBA: Vertical Forest in Milan is one of twenty winners of the Award of Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) 2018 for International Excellence, with the motivation:
Combining biodiversity with bustling urban life and creating its own micro-climate in the process, Bosco Verticale deals with density and air quality and in doing so creates an architectural botany that is both compelling and striking.
Four years after its inauguration, the Vertical Forest of Milan by Boeri Studio continues to attract the attention of the world.
The award received from one of the oldest and most prestigious International Institutions confirms how the two tree-covered towers of Milan have revolutionized the scenario of the world of construction and urban planning, introducing for the first time the architectural project that considers plants and trees (more than 20 thousand) as inhabitants and not as decorative elements.
The extraordinary performances that the Vertical Forest generates from the point of view of air purification and CO2 absorption confirm that the decision to integrate the living nature in architecture is destined to change the history of our cities.
Stefano Boeri Architetti is currently engaged in the construction and design of other examples of Vertical Forest in Europe (Paris, Utrecht, Lausanne, Eindhoven among others) and in China, India, Indonesia, Brazil, Mexico and Albania.
The RIBA Awards for International Excellence 2018 have been awarded to 20 exceptional new buildings in 16 countries, ranging from large urban infrastructure schemes to private homes; cultural destinations to civic spaces; educational buildings to places of worship.
The prize brings international attention to the most inspirational and significant new buildings created across the globe but also to a range of the industry’s leading talents, and the visionary clients that have commissioned these buildings. Speaking about the RIBA Awards for International Excellence 2018, RIBA President Ben Derbyshire said:
“The RIBA Awards for International Excellence 2018 are a testament to the breadth and quality of architecture being created around the world. These 20 outstanding projects were selected for their architectural ambition, design ingenuity and excellence of execution. Importantly, they demonstrate the significant and far-reaching contribution that architecture makes to our daily lives”.
The shortlist of four buildings will be announced in September 2018 and the winner of RIBA International Prize will be announced in November 2018.
