Seventeenth century defending tower restoration
Gavina tower dates from 1763 and is part of a set of similar typology defensive watchtowers erected on the coast of the Balearic Islands, between the sixteenth and eighteenth centuries. It is a conical volumetric building with a diameter of less than 12.35 meters and a maximum height of 8.74 meters, which distributes its program on two levels and functional upper platform.
The first floor is the main camera, covered by a hemispherical vault of 3.20 meters in radius, and the access door facing northeast. The floor is solid at its northern end, while in the south is the stock and magazine. The platform consists of an open space bounded by a continuous parapet from where it gets a major visual depth.
The term intervention carried between April 2007 and June 2008 has sought to act on what is most relevant to ensuring the overall integrity of the monument, allowing the building to express all that time has given it, perpetuating its character and identity.
Except for fences practicable, of which no references were available, they used the same materials and construction systems as those used in the original construction. These materials are primarily local limestone masonry, lime mortar and local sandstone (marès). Have been restored only those elements which have suffered a deterioration significant enough to be unable to continue to develop its role in the whole building, and demonstrated clearly the parts or areas in which it had intervened on the original substrate.

Restauración de una torre de defensa del siglo XVIII
La Torre de la Gavina data de 1763 y forma parte de un conjunto de atalayas defensivas de tipología similar levantadas en el litoral de las Pitiüsas entre los siglos XVI y XVIII.
Se trata de un edificio de volumetría troncocónica, con un diámetro inferior de 12,35 metros y una altura máxima de 8,74 metros, que distribuye su programa funcional en dos niveles y plataforma superior. En la planta primera se encuentra la cámara principal, cubierta por una bóveda semiesférica de 3,20 metros de radio, así como la puerta de acceso orientada hacia el noreste. La planta baja se encuentra macizada en su extremo norte, mientras que en la zona sur se encuentra el almacén y el polvorín. La plataforma consta de un espacio descubierto delimitado por un parapeto continuo desde donde se obtiene una importante profundidad visual.
La intervención llevada a término entre abril de 2007 y junio de 2008 ha buscado actuar en aquello más relevante para garantizar la integridad global del monumento, permitiendo que el edificio manifieste todo aquello que el tiempo le ha conferido, perpetuando su carácter e identidad.
A excepción de los cerramientos practicables, de los cuales no se disponía de referencias, se han utilizado los mismos materiales y sistemas constructivos que los utilizados en la construcción original. Estos materiales fundamentalmente son mampostería de piedra calcárea local, mortero de cal y piedra arenisca local (marés). Se han restituido tan solo aquellos elementos que han sufrido una degradación suficientemente importante como para no poder continuar desarrollando su función en el conjunto de la edificación, y se ha manifestado claramente las piezas o zonas en las cuales se ha intervenido, respecto el substrato original.
