Turecka apartments are finished

Low-cost and nice social housing with 17 units in the centre of Senec, small town near Bratislava, Slovakia. As we are young and emerging architectural studio, this is our first larger scale realised project.

Description

We were commissioned to design social and low cost / cheap housing. Our task to build as many small apartments as possible on an extremely difficult and limited plot was enriched by the locality in a very centre of the town Senec, close to one important historical building. Turecka apartment house is filling the gap between lowstorey housing of various styles.

According to very long and narrow plot, we used only one main staircase for better access to the whole area. Small-scale apartment house contents 6 studios with private gardens at the ground floor and 11 duplex 1-bedroom apartments with large terraces at the second floor. Our small sized duplexes /46 m2/ are unique apartment typology concept in Slovakia.

Flats are social by the size and the cost, but with the spirit of large ones thanks to big windows, maximum use of space and all of them have either private garden or a terrace. For breaking the long corridor with light and nice view there is a green patio on the second floor.

Architectural goal was to enrich this locality and create an iconic, easy to remember and original building, pure with the volume as an opposite to the patchy and chaotic surrounding development.

Housing with social apartment was designed as a cheap / low cost project, also as a low energy consumption building /B category/. This housing project was successful also from the commercial point of view, while all apartments were immediately sold out.
