Buildings in Stirling
Stirling Castle
The Romans built a Fort on Stirling Castle rock. This building was replaced by a new castle commissioned by the King Alexander I; he died at the Castle in 1124.
William the Lion signed the Treaty of Falaise in 1174 which ensured the six most important castles in Scotland should be garrisoned by the English. In 1189 Stirling Castle was returned to Scottish ownership.
Stirling Tolbooth
Stirling Tolbooth represents a major and confident insertion into a historic building that is all too rare in Scotland. The contrast of old and new, subtle and strident is exciting and the complexity astounding. The stone building dates from the seventeenth century onwards, and has functioned variously as a town hall, a courthouse and jail.

Michael Laird Architects Stirling
For Stirling Housing Joint Venture Project & for Central Scotland Business Parks Ltd
Michael Laird Architects announce that they have recently gained detailed planning consent for two separate building projects within central Stirling.
Both projects have developed out of the partnership’s appointment in 1999 as masterplan architects for the regeneration of the land fronting Stirling Railway Station – Station Square. The Station Square masterplan provides an exciting ‘gateway’ to Stirling and forges pedestrian links between the rail and bus infrastructure to the regenerated commercial centre, the historic town centre and Stirling Castle.
