New Learning Disability Centre
Work on site has now started for the £3.4m Craigshill Learning Disability Centre in Livingston by macmon architects.
Councillor Isabel Hutton SNP took part in the sod cutting ceremony alongside user groups and West Lothian Council representatives.
The 1,550m2 purpose build is replacing two existing facilities at Linlithgow and Blackburn.
macmon said: “This is a very exciting stage as we are moving closer to the realisation of a bespoke building which has been closely developed with all user groups and the local authorities.”
Once completed the energy efficient development will include an arts-and-crafts room, a music room, an IT suite and a sensory garden.

The Craigshill Learning Disabilities Centre in Livingstone has been granted planning permission by West Lothian Council. Work will start late April 2009 and will be finished in 2010.
macmon architects designed the unique £3m purpose built facility which will cater for up to 110 people providing structured day care, day respite, a specialist eight place severe autistic spectrum unit and a eight place behavioural therapy centre.
The Centre will form the flagship for a range of important new services for people with disabilities, their carers and local communities. The internal and external design will reflect a bold, positive and inclusive vision of disability. It will also demonstrate the most up to date and carefully developed thinking about designing and building for people with severe learning disabilities, challenging behaviours and sensory impairments.
