In the gently rolling hills of the picturesque Roztocze region in eastern Poland, a quiet architectural story is unfolding. One that speaks less of spectacle, and more of sensitivity.
Warsaw-based studio Nizio Design International has unveiled the next phase of development at Dwór Sanna, a historic manor estate turned boutique destination, with the addition of a series of discreet holiday cottages that seamlessly integrate with the surrounding landscape. Set within a 7-hectare park and framed by vineyards, the new buildings are not just functional extensions of the estate’s hospitality offering. They are physical expressions of a broader vision – to create spaces where nature, architecture and the human experience are closely intertwined.
“At the heart of this project was a shared desire to create something truly meaningful—spaces that resonate with the land and offer a deeper connection to nature,” says Mirosław Nizio, founder of Nizio Design International and the architect behind the concept. “We designed these houses to offer guests multi-sensory experiences, in tune with the rhythm of the place.”
The architecture draws inspiration from the estate’s heritage and rural context while introducing a contemporary language of soft curves, panoramic glazing, and natural materials. The forms gently rise from the landscape rather than sit upon it. Green roofs echo the texture of the vineyard rows, while wide windows open onto views of the 200-year-old park and surrounding fields.
The buildings, measuring approximately 80 square metres each, are conceived as year-round retreats, not seasonal cabins. They blur the line between interior and exterior, offering immersive experiences that shift with the seasons. From the scent of timber to the filtered play of light, every element is considered to support a slower, more reflective mode of living.
This latest addition is part of a larger, long-term strategy to evolve Dwór Sanna (Sanna Manor) into a hub for ecotourism, biodynamic agriculture, and sustainable rural development. The estate already produces its own wine and cheeses, with architecture now playing a vital role in articulating its identity, one that is both grounded and future-facing.
This architectural project reflects a wider global trend, where vineyards are emerging not just as destinations for wine lovers, but as architectural showcases. Increasingly, their identity is shaped not only by terroir and tradition, but by design-led interventions that foster connection with nature. Nizio’s intervention at Dwór Sanna aligns with this shift; not through bold gestures, but through restraint, clarity and a deep respect for context.
Visiting the site today feels like stepping into a different rhythm. One defined not by urgency, but by patience. Like the grapes slowly ripening on the vines, the architecture here matures quietly with its setting, offering a compelling case for what it means to build with time, not against it.
