A custom single residence in North Perth, Australia that caters to the client’s love of style, food, water and entertaining.

The Baby Burt Residence is a distinctly modern design combines raw materials with privacy screening, voids and lighting to create spaces of surprising warmth and connection to nature.

Bold without being intrusive, the geometrically striking upper storey is softened with a curved batten façade that harbours a balcony plant, offering both privacy and a connection to nature for the upstairs living area.

The cantilevered features of the upper storey provide an entry area that is stylish, secure and private, with a gated area that ties in with the strong verticals featured in the letterbox, external cladding and interior design features.

At the rear of the house, the overhang gained from the master bedroom offers protection and cover for a large outdoor dining area, reflecting the clients’ love of good food, entertaining and the outdoors. This is complemented by a bespoke outdoor pool that uses clever level changes to provide safe access without unsightly fencing.

From inside the master bedroom, the floor-to-ceiling glazing and shaped concrete provide a view of the landscaped garden that is both framed and picture-perfect.

The upper storey uses feature metal screenings for both privacy and detail, with a setback on the western edge that permits for outdoor potted trees, again reinforcing that connection to nature established at the entrance.
