Brentwood Tennis Pavilion, Los Angeles, California

Our clients, a young family passionate about tennis, had long sought to purchase the property behind them which featured a tennis court. The opportunity finally arose and they set out to create the Brentwood Tennis Pavilion that could accommodate private tennis lessons for themselves and their friends.

The exterior facade and roof of the 63’ x 16’ pavilion is clad in custom black metal panels. The tennis pavilion is divided into three zones a fitness room, an outdoor living room, and a wine room that separates the living room from a storage space for sports equipment and a powder room behind.

OUTDOOR LIVING ROOM

The open-air outdoor living room, centered on center court, features swing day beds for guests to lounge in as they watch informal tennis matches. Integrally colored concrete benches act as both ball restraint and additional seating.

The ridged ceiling is finished with stained cedar planks and reclaimed wood beams stained to match. Attached to the beams are discretely placed infra-red heaters, monopoint lights and LED lights atop the beams to highlight the beautiful wood-lined ceiling.

The living room includes a wet bar which is equipped with an ice maker and dish washer, filtered water and a backsplash of book matched stone veneer. The opposite wall contains an outdoor television recessed into the metal paneling.

FITNESS ROOM

The fitness room features wood-lined walls and ceiling that match the outdoor living room with white oak wide plank flooring. White oak cabinetry is stained to match the ceiling/walls and allows for storage of fitness equipment as well as a television.

Floor outlets provide power and data for a Peleton fitness machine. Fleetwood multi-slide doors are placed on opposite walls to allow for cross ventilation. On the gable end, barn doors clad in reclaimed wood planks open the fitness room to a gravel courtyard surrounded by lush hedges.

WINE ROOM

The wine room is lined with angled shelves that allow for storage of bottles with labels facing up for easy identification. A wood rolling ladder stained to match the white oak cabinetry provides access to the upper shelves.

Two rows of flat shelves below accommodate storage of champagne in wood cases. The remaining wall and ceiling surfaces are finished in a dark plaster that matches the plaster at their home on the adjacent lot. Behind the wine room, a storage area and a powder room face a gravel courtyard with a citrus grove.
