This 38-storey tower was given planning approval back in January 2013.
It is nicknamed The Scalpel due to its sharp design, using asymmetric facets. Later the tag became the building’s actual title.
Height: 190m / 620ft
The building will be the European headquarters for the US insurance company WR Berkley.
In comparison Foster + Partners’ The Gherkin (30 St Mary Axe) is only 180m / 590ft high.
The development is to contain more than 500,000 sqft (45,000 sqm) of commercial space. WR Berkley plan to use around 25% of the floor space.
The building is due to be occupied by other leading specialist insurance professionals.
The tower is located on the corner of Lime Street and Leadenhall Street, adjacent to the Willis Building and opposite the Lloyd’s building.
