Microsoft Workplace in London Offices
Gensler’s core design strategy for the new office was to develop a workplace that reflects the constant growth of its industry. With innovation front of mind, Gensler has developed a flexible and diverse environment that allows Microsoft’s different teams to work in a place that is built upon community and knowledge sharing. The office consists of myriad spaces where staff can find different locations to suit their needs, whether that be formal, informal, quiet or lively.
Additionally, inspiration for the new Microsoft has been drawn from the rich history and culture of the city at its doorstep in Paddington. With ideas stemming from London’s iconic food markets, Soho House and the local rail and canal network, Gensler has designed an authentic office, providing the atmosphere for both learning and socialising.
It is also worth noting that the office brings HoloLens, SwiftKey, Xbox, Lift London, Bing and many other groups together under one roof, reflecting the company’s aim to establish a strong and integrated London base.
Quote from Stuart Templeton, Lead Interior Designer and Associate, Gensler:
“Today’s workforce is defined by permanent change and the new Microsoft London workplace is at the forefront of providing spaces that accommodate evolving users in a ground-breaking industry. With this project, we really wanted to look at new ways of bringing together the different Microsoft business groups into one global centre of excellence. Our design approach was completely people-centred, and by working in close partnership with Microsoft’s business groups, real-estate team, and the contractors, we designed a custom facility which focuses on collaboration.
By looking at the practice of workplace through a different lens and understanding the changing face of the different end-users and business groups, we’ve been able to create an environment that encourages innovation through flexibility, transparency, interactions and communication. The new space has been really well received, with employees noting the positive impact the new environment is having on their work-life balance.”
