CONSTRUCTION
Incorporates several so-called modern methods of construction: Unitised cladding, bathroom pods, pre-finished, pre-cast “twin wall” structural party walls.
Frame: Bottom three floors (public areas with longer spans) are a rigid “sway frame” of in situ concrete. The upper bedroom levels are of egg crate form on a 4.200m module, made of twin wall pre-cast walls and stiffening cores at north, south and central cores.
Cicular columns to lower levels self-finished, cast in polythene sheaths inside cardboard.
Cladding: Unitised panels 1400w x 3000h. Pre-finished including windows, insulation, vapour barriers, finish in factory in Austria. Panels are clad in raw (ie not pre-patinated/ oxidised) and extruded terracotta.
Bathroom pods: Concrete shell, pre-finished, installed by structural contractor.

More London
More London is one of the biggest development sites in central London since the war, stretching from Potter’s Fields adjacent to Tower Bridge and Hays Galleria and from the Thames to Tooley St. The masterplan is by Foster Associates, initiated by Ken Shuttleworth prior to his departure to form make.
The masterplan design is based around a strong visual axis, or “diagonal” from the entrance to the site from Tooley St, to the White Tower of Tower Bridge. This axis is marked by a stream or rill of running water carved into the limestone carpet.
The buildings on the site are predominantly commercial offices for blue chip clients including Ernst and Young and the solicitors Norton Rose and Lawrence Graham, all attracted south of the river from the city by the high quality of the development. All buildings are designed bespoke to the tenants requirements, no pre-lets.
Other buildings include the Unicorn children’s theatre and the GLA. Café’s and restaurants occupy the ground floor onto the “diagonal.”
The entire masterplan site is vehicle free, with servicing from basement level -2, accessed via an underground tunnel. The masterplan is landscaped with a carpet of dark grey Irish limestone with water baths and fountains. A major feature is the Scoop, an elliptical outdoor terraced theatre. Heights of all buildings are limited by strategic views to the dome of St Paul’s Cathedral.
