Lyngby Town Hall
Lyngby Town Hall (1939-42) was designed by two Danish architects Ib Martin Jensen (1906-79) and Hans Erling Langkilde (1906-97).
This characteristic concave building is five stories tall and covered in green marble. When you walk all the way to the top of this Modern building, windows in the public areas allow you to view across all of Lyngby’s rooftops and surrounding area.

The interior of the building is beautifully detailed with a large sweeping staircase as focal point at the back of the wide entrance hall. The floors above are equally generous with the public space. Flooded in natural light from both sides of the building and offering comfortable seating areas on all floors.
Lyngby – Taarnbæk council were looking into the future when they commissioned this town hall. Lyngby ’s population was only 30,000, but the new building would be big enough to admister a population of 55,000. Even so the council today have several departments all over town.
Ib Martin Jensen and Hans Erling Langkilde practised together from 1938 to 1972. Some of the buildings designed by the two include Skovgårds School in Gentofte(1949-51), Elverhøjens School in Herlev (1954) and other banks and institutions.
