Offices for the Traffic Control Operations Unit in Santiago
This commission involved the revamping of two old houses, which housed the Traffic Control Operations Unit, a branch office of the Ministry of Transports dedicated to the supervision of traffic lights and signs in Santiago thanks to video cameras placed in key locations.
Furthermore, a third building was to be incorporated as an annex towards the corner of Santa Beatriz and Pérez Valenzuela Street.
The challenge was to merge all three properties into one corporate building that would not only provide space and functionality but also project an image of sobriety and modernity in line with the type of activities that take place in the building.
A new entrance was thus created in the corner by means of an elevated hallway accessible through an outdoor stairway. This new entrance aimed to bring the public nature of the building into focus.
Inside the building, a hall was created by means of a mid-floor staircase system, which acts as a functional and spatial artery between the different parts of the building, thereby binding spaces and improving people flow.
Outside, a backlit glass screen unifies the façade and adds a modern touch to the building, in line with its use.

This building is inviting…it signals an openness towards the community that surrounds it. Qualities like transparency and welcoming spaces create the type of place where people gather together. The architects propose a building that invites one to linger, that promotes the interaction between people and art, in all its manifestations.
