Estadio Espanyol
For this stadium, Arup developed the fire protection strategy and the structural design during the basic project phase. This included the design of both the stand and foundations as well as the roof, made of reinforced concrete and steel respectively.
The building is in the shape of an ellipse with a rectangular flat roof, a central hole coinciding with the pitch and lights between columns of 200 m. To achieve better visibility and a good sporting environment, the stadium design includes having the position of the spectators as close as possible to the playing filed.
The stadium’s evacuation strategy has been developed based on the analysis of pedestrian flows, successfully tested in other projects.
