David Chipperfield receives the German British Forum Award 2008 for furthering Anglo-German relations

On 5th November 2008, British architect David Chipperfield received this prestigious award 2008. The award ceremony, held at the Hotel Atlantic Kempinski in Hamburg, northern Germany, was the finale of the 13th Annual Conference of the German-British Forum.
The objective of the German British Forum (GBF) is to enlarge the common ground and reduce the room for misunderstanding between Germany and Britain by focusing attention on the strong links binding the two countries together.

The awards jury seeks out individuals who, in their opinion, have done much to further Anglo-German relations. Each year one Germany-based and one Britain-based person receive an award. David Chipperfield’s fellow award recipient is David McAllister, the leader of the CDU (Christian Democratic Union of Germany) in Lower Saxony Landtag.
Each winner received a prize of €5,000, for donation to a charity of their choice. David Chipperfield’s prize was donated to the Leo Baeck Institute London. The Leo Baeck Institute is the leading research institute in the field of German-Jewish history and culture.
Previous winners of the award include Vivienne Westwood (2001), Joschka Fischer (2000), Sir Simon Rattle (1999), and Norman Foster (1998).

David Chipperfield erhält den German-British Forum Award 2008
Am 5. November 2008 wurde David Chipperfield der angesehene German-British Forum Award 2008 für die Förderung der deutsch-englischen Beziehungen verliehen. Die feierliche Zeremonie, die den Höhepunkt der 13. Jahreskonferenz des German-British Forum bildete, fand im Hotel Atlantic Kempinski in Hamburg statt.
Das German-British Forum verfolgt das Ziel, die Gemeinsamkeiten zwischen Deutschland und Großbritannien auszubauen und Raum für Missverständnisse zu verringern, indem die Aufmerksamkeit auf die starken Beziehungen gelenkt wird, die beide Länder miteinander verbinden.
Prämiert werden Persönlichkeiten, die sich um die Förderung der deutsch-britischen Beziehungen besonders verdient gemacht haben. Jährlich erhalten eine Person aus Deutschland sowie eine Person aus Großbritannien diesen Preis. Neben David Chipperfield wird David McAllister, Vorsitzender der CDU-Fraktion im Niedersächsischen Landtag, dieser Preis verliehen.
Jeder Preisträger hat 5.000 EUR Spendengeld für eine gemeinnützige Organisation seiner Wahl erhalten. David Chipperfields Preisgeld wurde dem Leo Baeck Institut in London gespendet, dem führenden Forschungsinstitut im Bereich der deutsch-jüdischen Geschichte und Kultur.
