The Portside Christian College Senior School is a future-focused, three-storey vertical learning environment that responds to a highly constrained site within the New Port Quays redevelopment. Designed as the first stage of a broader campus masterplan, the building establishes a strong foundation for progressive, flexible, and student-centred learning.

The architecture maximises the compact footprint through a layered arrangement of learning communities, connected by open circulation spaces, glazed stairwells, and central learning commons. These elements promote transparency, interaction, and movement between year levels while supporting a sense of independence for senior students. A diverse mix of learning environments—including specialist spaces, collaborative hubs, and quiet study zones—enables adaptability in teaching and learning approaches.

A key driver of the design is its strong connection to place. The building is carefully oriented to frame views towards the surrounding Port River, Hart’s Mill, and the broader coastal landscape, reinforcing a sense of locality and identity. These visual links are complemented by material selections and architectural responses that reference the site’s industrial and waterfront context, grounding the school within its environment.

Outdoor learning areas, landscaped gathering spaces, and an amphitheatre extend learning beyond the building, supporting both school and community use. The project integrates deeply with its context, celebrating cultural connections to Kaurna Country while contributing positively to the evolving character of the precinct.
