Living in Perichón begins before its form is defined. The starting point is to carefully acknowledge what already exists: a wooded plot, a clearing amidst the vegetation, and environmental conditions typical of a subtropical landscape. Instead of understanding the site as an empty surface upon which to place an object, the project attempts to occupy it with the least possible alteration.

The Viviendo Perichón house sits within this clearing and organizes its main spaces between two large galleries facing east and west. These semi-covered spaces constitute the project’s central operation. They protect the facades from direct sunlight, regulate the relationship with rainfall, and extend domestic life outdoors, creating two large shaded areas from which the house connects with the landscape.

“Living between two shadows” describes both an environmental strategy and a way of life. The house does not end at its walls: it extends beneath the galleries, in spaces where interior and exterior remain deliberately close. There, everyday activities, encounters, and moments of lingering take place that could hardly unfold in the same way in completely exposed spaces.

This feature harks back to a tradition deeply rooted in our region. Faced with a climate of high temperatures, humidity, and abundant rainfall, galleries, patios, eaves, and transitional spaces have historically served as fundamental adaptation mechanisms. The project recaptures this ingenuity without literally reproducing its forms, instead incorporating it into contemporary architecture.

Viviendo Perichón, Corrientes

Viviendo Perichón comienza antes de definir su forma. El punto de partida es reconocer cuidadosamente lo que ya existe: un terreno arbolado, un claro disponible entre la vegetación y unas condiciones ambientales propias del paisaje subtropical.

En lugar de entender el sitio como una superficie vacía sobre la cual implantar un objeto, el proyecto intenta ocuparlo con la menor alteración posible.

La casa se instala en ese claro y organiza sus espacios principales entre dos grandes galerías ubicadas hacia el este y el oeste. Estos espacios semicubiertos constituyen la operación central del proyecto. Protegen las fachadas de la radiación directa, regulan la relación con las lluvias y amplían la vida doméstica hacia el exterior, produciendo dos grandes zonas de sombra desde las cuales la vivienda se relaciona con el paisaje.

“Habitar entre dos sombras” describe tanto una estrategia ambiental como una forma de vida. La casa no termina en sus cerramientos: se prolonga bajo las galerías, en ámbitos donde interior y exterior permanecen deliberadamente próximos. Allí tienen lugar actividades cotidianas, encuentros y permanencias que difícilmente podrían desarrollarse de la misma manera en espacios completamente expuestos.

Esta condición remite a una tradición profundamente vinculada con nuestra región. Frente a un clima de altas temperaturas, humedad y lluvias abundantes, galerías, patios, aleros y espacios de transición han funcionado históricamente como dispositivos elementales de adaptación. El proyecto recupera esa inteligencia sin reproducir literalmente sus formas, incorporándola a una arquitectura contemporánea.
