Rockbund Art Museum Shanghai, China : David Chipperfield Architects

Following the establishment of international trading relations in the nineteenth century, Shanghai became a commercial and cultural centre of East Asia and home to a large number of European commercial offices and consulates. Examples of Shanghai’s Art Deco style – European building styles combined with Asian elements, characteristic of the city’s early twentieth century architecture, are strung along The Bund, Shanghai’s boulevard on the west bank of the Huangpu river.

The project, which covers a site area of 46 hectares, massively extends the city centre, accommodating governmental, academic, residential and commercial functions. It provides support for the area through new transport infrastructure and a network of public streets and open spaces.
The Wolfe Center for the Arts, Ohio, USA – on site : Snøhetta, architects
The center brings together the Universities fine arts programs that were once scattered across the campus into one dynamic and collaborative learning space. The center will house theater, music, film, digital arts, design, sound, and dance.
108 Housing Madrid, Spain : A-CERO Architects
“A-cero XV Aniversario” is a 3D mapping projection directed by Onionlab on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of the architecture studio A-cero. The first six minutes review the three architectural lines followed by the studio throughout its 15-year history, first posing the bases of sculptural origin and finishing off with samples of the most representative works.
Mill Hill House, London, England : Ungar Architects
Ungar Architects has secured planning permission for a striking contemporary house in a conservation area under strict Green Belt Policy. The new four bedroom family home in Mill Hill, Northwest London will replace a three bed cottage that has existed on the site since approximately 1860.
Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centres, UK : New Buildings – Information
Following a remarkable fundraising campaign, Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centres – the UK leader in the field of psychosocial support for people with cancer – is delighted to unveil plans for the next seven centres, all due for completion within the next two years. These future centres will each be available to an average population of 2 million people, and will include projects by Pritzker Prize winning architect Rem Koolhaas of OMA, and other notable architects.
Shanghai Expo Architecture 2010 – Opening, China : Buildings + Architects
The UK pavilion – also known as the ‘Dandelion’ – is awarded the top prize. The Seed Cathedral designed by famoius British architectural designer Thomas Heatherwick won gold in its category. The 60,680 rods it contains will be auctioned for charity, and the seeds contained in the rods will be presented to a Chinese school.
