RMJM appoint director to support move into emerging markets
The UK-based architectural company RMJM has made a senior appointment to support its move into new markets with the arrival of former Sandhurst army officer Nick Haston as Director of Global Emerging Markets.

RMJM – which currently has 14 offices throughout North America, Asia, Middle East and Europe – created the new role to help the company break into geographic territories which are less affected by the current economic climate. The aim is to strengthen the company’s position as one of the world’s largest architectural practices and to capitalise on opportunities in countries not often targeted by Western architects.

Haston will be focusing his efforts on the fast-growing developing economies of Brazil, Russia, India and China, although his remit also extends to North Africa, South America and Eastern Europe where RMJM does not currently have a foothold.
RMJM Chief Executive, Peter Morrison, said of the appointment:
“We are tackling the recession head on by refocusing our business in the growth areas of healthcare, education and transport infrastructure, where many world leaders are investing heavily, and also by breaking into new markets.
“Our focus is on winning the world’s most challenging and exciting projects, wherever these might be. The new appointment of Nick, who is a hugely influential communicator and networker, will be invaluable.”
Haston will call upon his extensive contacts made during an illustrious military career, and knowledge of international relations, to break into the new markets. Most recently, Haston was Deputy Director of Operations for the Operational Brigade Headquarters, controlling 7000 soldiers to lead large military operations, including the recapturing of the strategic town of Musa Qaleh in Afghanistan and, prior to this, as Infantry Company Commander in Baghdad. He is a graduate of the University of Cambridge, King’s College London and the Royal Military Academy at Sandhurst.
Nick Haston said:
“While architecture is a new environment for me to be working in, I will be drawing upon my understanding of different cultures and international relations to facilitate introductions to big players in territories where we do not already have a strong presence.”
