AHMM were appointed in late 2015 to redevelop a dilapidated Grade II listed barracks at Royal Arsenal, Woolwich. The brief sought to retain ‘The Officers’ House’ (Block-A) and develop additional housing within a new, ‘twin’ block (Block-B) running parallel to it.

1 New Burlington Place is a mixed development redeveloping a disparate series of buildings into a cohesively layered urban block in London. A pair of grade II listed Georgian townhouses are transformed and incorporated into the adjacent retail unit and the other returned to a family home.

5 Jan 2016 – Television Centre, the iconic former home of the BBC, will launch residential sales to the public in April: 950 new homes and apartments, new cafés and restaurants, an independent cinema, 400,000 sqft of office space and a new outpost of a private members’ club, complete with a hotel.

Burntwood School Wandsworth – Stirling Prize Winner
The Burntwood School by AHMM wins 2015 RIBA Stirling Prize for the UK’s best new building:
Burntwood School, a large comprehensive girls’ school in Wandsworth, London by Allford Hall Monaghan Morris (AHMM) has won the coveted RIBA Stirling Prize 2015 for the UK’s best new building. Now in its 20th year, the RIBA Stirling Prize, is the UK’s most prestigious architecture prize.

The presentation of the RIBA Stirling Prize trophy to architects AHMM took place at a ceremony at the Royal Institute of British Architects in London.

AHMM’s transformation of Burntwood School reimagines a 1950’s modernist secondary school campus for 2000 girls and 200 staff. The architects created six new faculty buildings and two large cultural buildings linking original buildings by renowned 1950s/1960s architect Sir Leslie Martin.

The new school built as part of Hull’s Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme acts as a visual and intellectual beacon in the flatlands of east Yorkshire, providing learning opportunities for the whole community. Taking as its reference the confident multi-storey Victorian schools that towered over their neighbourhoods, the external form is bold yet simple and the cladding is practical and sharp, reflecting light dramatically at certain moments.

The key feature is a chamfer progressively sliced off the angled facade as it rises up the building, the architects describe it thus: “Terminating the vista from the south end of Blackfriars Bridge is the crystalline form of this 20 storey office building wrapped in a fluid pinstripe glass skin”.

Dagenham Park School
Dagenham Park Church of England School is one of the final BSF projects to be delivered. It replaces a number of outdated buildings with a new performing arts teaching building within a unified campus of the retained Sports Centre and D&T Building. The overall budget for the project was £22.6m which represents genuine value and the creation of a major new asset for the school and local community.

Aware of the wilful form-making that has characterised a large number of Building Schools for the Future projects, the architects proposed a solution that comprised of two simple geometric forms, a triangle and a rectangle. In the wrong hands this approach could have been leaden, here it is endlessly subtle.
