Mar de China House is a residential project located in Bétera, designed as a calm and balanced living environment rooted in Mediterranean context and contemporary minimalism.
The architecture is defined by horizontal lines, open-plan layouts, and a strong connection to the exterior landscape. Large panoramic openings frame the garden and allow natural light to shape the interior throughout the day.
The material palette is warm and restrained, built on natural wood, light stone, soft plaster finishes, and neutral textiles. The combination creates a cohesive and tactile environment where textures, rather than contrasts, define the space.
The kitchen and living areas are conceived as a continuous volume, with integrated storage and clean architectural lines. Custom cabinetry and built-in elements reinforce the sense of order and visual calm.
Furniture is carefully selected to support the architectural language: soft upholstered volumes are balanced with light metal structures and solid wood elements. Each object is positioned with precision, avoiding excess and maintaining spatial clarity.
Lighting is subtle and layered, combining recessed systems, indirect illumination, and sculptural fixtures that enhance depth without dominating the space.
Mar de China House is designed as a timeless home, where architecture, materials, and light work together to create a quiet, long-term living environment.
The project won the BLT Built Design Awards 2025 in the “Interior design – Houses” category.
What objects and materials were used in this project?
The project is based on a restrained palette of natural, tactile materials that create a calm and cohesive spatial atmosphere.
Floors are finished with light-toned natural oak, enhancing warmth and continuity throughout the house. In wet areas, large-format porcelain stoneware in soft beige tones is used for durability and visual consistency.
Walls are treated with mineral plaster and textured finishes, including fluted wall panels in the bathroom that add depth through subtle shadow play. Ceilings remain smooth and matte, reinforcing the architectural clarity of the space.
Custom-built cabinetry in natural oak veneer defines the kitchen and storage systems, combined with light composite stone surfaces for worktops and islands.
Bathrooms feature integrated solid-surface washbasins, wall-mounted taps, and minimalist black-framed shower enclosures. Glass partitions and large openings connect interior spaces with the surrounding greenery.
Furniture is contemporary and understated: upholstered modular sofas in textured fabric, solid wood tables, and lightweight chairs with metal frames and soft seating. Decorative elements remain minimal and carefully curated.
Lighting is layered through recessed ceiling fixtures, linear integrated light, and sculptural pendant lamps with soft diffused light.
All materials are selected for their ability to age naturally and maintain a timeless character.
What awards does this project have?
The project won the BLT Built Design Awards 2025 in the Interior design – Houses category.
