Work Begins on Phase 1 of the Sentosa–Brani Transformation in Singapore
Works have officially commenced on Phase 1 of the long-term transformation of Singapore’s Sentosa–Brani island cluster, marking a significant milestone for one of Asia’s most ambitious landscape-led regeneration projects.
Grant Associates developed the Greater Sentosa Master Plan on behalf of Sentosa Development Corporation, setting out a long-term vision that repositions the islands as a resilient, world-class leisure and ecological destination.
First unveiled in 2019, the masterplan establishes a landscape-first framework for the evolution of the islands — reconnecting fragmented habitats, strengthening coastal resilience and creating immersive visitor experiences rooted in the unique island ecology of Sentosa and Pulau Brani.
The commencement of Phase 1 marks the transition from strategic vision to physical delivery. Phase 1 will introduce major public‑realm, mobility, and coastal improvements, including:A new transport hub linking Sentosa and Pulau Brani as part of the broader Greater Sentosa connectivity network. The hub will anchor future lifestyle and hospitality developments, and includes plans to replace the Sentosa Express with future-ready transit options.
Rejuvenated beaches and integrated coastal protection measures, enabling visitors to continue enjoying the shoreline while ensuring Sentosa remains safeguarded against rising sea levels and climate-related risks.
New destination icons that will guide visitors through restored heritage buildings, nature trails and elevated lookout points. At the heart of the masterplan is a commitment to shaping development around natural systems. Coastal landscapes, restored habitats and layered public realm strategies form the backbone of the islands’ transformation — ensuring that tourism, biodiversity and climate resilience are embedded together from the outset.
Andrew Grant, Founder and Director of Grant Associates, commented:“The Greater Sentosa Master Plan represents a rare opportunity to think at true island scale — where ecology, experience and long-term resilience can be planned as one integrated system. It is hugely encouraging to see the first phase now moving into delivery, bringing that landscape-led vision to life.
”The wider transformation will unfold over the coming decades, guided by a framework that balances environmental stewardship with economic vitality and public access.
As works progress on Phase 1, the project stands as a significant benchmark for integrated island masterplanning in the Asia-Pacific region — and a powerful example of how landscape strategy can shape the identity and future resilience of complex coastal destinations.
