First Class SilverKris Lounge at Changi Airport in Singapore

Singapore Airlines’ transformed First Class SilverKris Lounge at Changi Terminal 2 represents a defining milestone in the airline’s multi-phase rejuvenation. The design approach focused on maximising every spatial opportunity within the constraints of an existing terminal environment. Innovative solutions were required, including opening the roof to accommodate kitchen provisions and integrating new toilet suites while maintaining the desired spatial quality.

The entrance sequence was carefully planned to create a seamless welcome experience. As travellers approach via the terminal bridge, the spatial arrangement frames their arrival with batik imagery on both sides, establishing a clear threshold before reaching the circular foyer. Layered lighting and refined finishes support this transition, encouraging a brief pause before guests move deeper into the lounge. Batik elements were developed and integrated as part of the overall architectural sequence.

The Signature Bar is the first focal point guests encounter beyond the foyer. The team deliberately placed this aurora-inspired centrepiece to create an intimate atmosphere through carefully considered ceiling heights. By utilising lowered ceilings around the bar, the 180-degree configuration encourages guests to sit and enjoy their surroundings over a signature beverage.

The living and dining areas capitalise on the lounge’s greatest asset: its expansive floor-to-ceiling windows that flood the space with natural light and emphasise its generous ceiling height.

The spatial planning ensures guests can lounge, dine, and relax in an environment that feels open and connected to the sky beyond. Statement chandeliers punctuate the space, creating a celestial quality that complements the natural light.

One of the project’s most distinctive design decisions involved the kitchen area. The existing terminal structure featured a sloping ceiling—a characteristic that the team recognised as an opportunity. By carefully rerouting all building services around this sloped profile, the design preserved the ceiling’s dramatic angle, allowing it to read as a floating architectural element above the kitchen. This approach exemplifies the project’s philosophy: to uncover and enhance spatial qualities rather than conceal.

Beyond the main social areas, the lounge includes thoughtfully designed supporting environments. Shower suites offer quiet, restorative spaces for respite. The Playroom introduces a more relaxed atmosphere, designed to accommodate families with children without disrupting the lounge’s overall tranquillity.

The lounge’s visual identity draws upon Singapore Airlines’ iconic batik motif. A 20-metre batik installation lines the bridge leading to the lounge entrance, establishing a sense of arrival and anticipation. Within the lounge, batik references appear more sparingly—etched into dining canopies, revealed behind curved alcoves, and integrated across select surfaces—ensuring continuity without overwhelming the architectural clarity.

The wayfinding system complements the spatial design with premium pictograms and softly illuminated icons for restrooms, showers, and other zones. The system guides movement intuitively whilst remaining visually unobtrusive, allowing the architecture to remain the primary focus. The result is a First Class lounge that reflects Singapore Airlines’ commitment to thoughtful, quietly confident hospitality.
