Scottish Design Awards 2012
The Scottish Design Awards have issued a call for entries for their 2012 awards program, a highlight in the architectural and design calendar.
As ever the event aims to recognize the best graphic and architectural design in Scotland.
Entries for the award must be received no later than Friday, March 9, but anyone quick out of the blocks with a submission prior to January 6 will receive a 20% discount.

‘The Kelpies’ Design Competition

The Kelpies Design Competition
The Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland has been commissioned by Falkirk Council to manage an important competition to select an architect-led, multi disciplinary, team. The competition is for the design of the internal space within a giant sculpture of a horse’s head. The structure will be set within one of two horses head sculptures, ‘The Kelpies’, by world renowned sculptor, Andy Scott. The competition also seeks the design of a complementary visitor hub on the same site. 9 Nov

RIAS Stirling Society of Architects 2011 Design Award – Winner
The RIAS Stirling Society of Architects has announced the winner of its 2011 Design Award. At a busy ceremony held in Gean House, Alloa, President of the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland, Sholto Humphreys presented Falkirk based practice ARKA Architects with the Society’s top award for it’s conversion of Cairneymount Church, Maddiston for GRS Homes: Stirling Society of Architects 2011 Design Award. 14 Oct

Archaeological dig uncovers long-lost castle site at Haddo House
Archaeological excavations currently underway at the National Trust for Scotland’s Haddo House near Methlick, Aberdeenshire are revealing substantial remains of the Place of Kelly, the seat of the Gordons of Haddo prior to the construction of Haddo House in the 1730s.
