Fazenda da Grama Residence – São Paulo Home
Surrounded by nature, the Fazenda da Grama Residence takes advantage of the uneven topography to arrange the lives of the residents in a countryside oasis, diluting the limits between intern and extern spaces. A combination of striking lines and overlapping volumes – sometimes aligned, other times distant from each other –, composed of zenithal openings and transparency, allows strategic framings of the landscape and creates unique relations between inside and outside, instigating the curiosity of those who lives there.
Five sectors (intimate, social, fun, guests and services) spreads over three levels and 1300 sqm, the Fazenda da Grama Residence was designed following the premise of family’s private life protection and an inviting appearance without giving up on its predominant horizontality. On the lower level are the service and social accesses.
Then, an extensive staircase leads to the intermediate level, where house’s main attractions are concentrated – the social block, with a multifunctional room connected to the patio with grass and swimming pool, fun and guests’ areas. There, a pergola shades the path and connects to the marquee, crossing the volume and connecting all sectors.
Finally, on the last level is the intimate area, isolated from other uses and with guaranteed privacy. Transitional paths are very well worked out, providing different space experiences; from the route traced by the user, new perspectives are created.
And it is precisely the functional and efficient design that results in the versatility of uses and calibrate privacy levels. The landscape design by Renata Tilli and Juliana do Val (Gaia Projetos) reinforces the integration with nature, since the house seems to delicately rest on a pre-existing garden, such is its naturalness.
Jaboticaba fruitful trees, a fishpond and organic lines pulverizes the limits between interior and exterior to the point of rising the question: are we inside or outside the house? Furthermore, vegetations is also applied as physical and visual barrier, positioned laterally to the social sector and closing off the pool area. The choice of light tones and nature derived materials dialogues directly with the initiative of harmoniously blend house and landscape.
The stone that covers the exterior also enters the house and wraps around the walls, blurring the definition of beginning and ending of spaces; the same goes for the woody ceiling, another element that refers to the surrounding vegetation and brings warmth up the spaces. On the other hand, the metallic elements on the marquee bring lightness and contemporaneity to the house.
The interior design, by Camila and Mariana Lellis, also prioritizes natural elements, with woodworking as the protagonist. “The goal was to create a harmonic decoration, combining architecture design and client’s needs”, shares Camila. To meet the family’s desire for a cozy and relaxed environment, with a country house atmosphere, wood was widely used in furniture such as the bookshelf, which is filled with books and memories, in contrast to the neutrality of the tiled floor and stone walls.
Earthy and warm tones are present throughout the decoration and add layers of complexity to the project, both visually and sensorially. It is possible to notice the subtle variation of colors in carpets, curtains, cushions and other objects, which reinforces the sensation of a continuous gradient.
Among the furniture and works of art, national design prevails. Music enthusiasts, the family achieved their dream of having an antique piano prominently featured in the generous social area, which also has large, spacious tables that comfortably accommodate guests for the long and lively lunches organized by the family. As the sun sets, the luminaires work to reinforce the much-desired cozy atmosphere in different environments.
“We managed to achieve synergy between the architectural project, the interior decoration and the clients’ desires, which reveal the intense connection with the house where they return on the weekends in order to enjoy intense contact with nature and reinforce the bonds of family coexistence”, says Mariana Lellis.
