The Beehive – Wellington Parliament Building Executive Wing, North Island
Design: Basil Spence Architect

New Zealand Parliament Building
New Zealand Parliament Buildings house the New Zealand Parliament and are on a 45,000 square metre site at the northern end of Lambton Quay, Wellington. They consist of the Edwardian neoclassical-style Parliament House (1922); the Parliamentary Library (1899); the executive wing, called “The Beehive” (1977); and Bowen House, in use since 1991. Whilst most of the individual buildings are outstanding for different reasons, the overall setting that has been achieved “has little aesthetic or architectural coherence”.

The living zone opens completely to this setting, and the timber exoskeleton references the surrounding trees. The bedrooms all have protected outdoor space, being closely located to the trees for increased privacy.
The Michael Hill Clubhouse, South Island

Queenstown architecture, Otago
Hunkered into the earth, The Michael Hill Clubhouse seeks to integrate and intensify the experience of golf with the landscape. The design seeks an impression of form having evolved from the same forces that shape the land.

Te Papa Museum building
The main Te Papa building is built on former Wellington Harbour Board land, on the waterfront in Wellington, on Cable Street. The building contains six floors of exhibitions, cafés and gift shops dedicated to New Zealand’s culture, history and environment.
The museum also incorporates outdoor areas with artificial caves, native bushes and wetlands. A second building on Tory Street is a scientific research facility and storage area, and is not open to the public.

Yellow Treehouse Restaurant
Kellie Nathan said, “I haven’t designed a treehouse since my childhood, let alone built a restaurant in one. I’ve been amazed at the interest from media and the design community overseas and, now that it’s completed, I’m really proud of the way it’s turned out.”
