Make America ♥ Again, Times Square New York City

From May 18-22, Design Pavilion™ presents a five-day cultural event, with a curated set of interactive displays bringing design and innovation directly to Times Square’s newly renovated plazas.

On this event, the Consulate General of the Netherlands in New York invited www.collectivepaperaesthetics.com to animate the plaza by presenting hands-on design experience to all.

Make America ♥ Again provides a blank canvas for visitors and passers-by to create their own architectural/urban models.

The project was celebrating design through shifting the inter-disciplinary participatory placemaking process from the studio to the street, from the professionals to the citizens. Everyone can be a designer.

Positioning Collective Paper Aesthetics project at one of the world’s busiest pedestrian areas became a success.

Tourists visiting the city from all over the world, families on their way to and out of the theatre, design lovers and the once who never heard about the discipline before enjoyed the constructive activity on the grass lawn. Building a large-scale heart at the Crossroads of the World.

For two days, visitors @NYCxDESIGN and passers-by on Times Square were invited for public placemaking using pre-fabricated modular construction system designed by Noa Haim:

Collective Paper Aesthetics is a Rotterdam based studio, founded following a successful presentation of Noa Haim’s graduation work from the Berlage Institute as participatory activity in London Festival of Architecture 2008.

In collaboration with museums, science centres and brand experience the studio design and develop educational tools, hands-on furnishing and participatory pop-up spaces.

Among the studio patrons are MUDAM LUXEMBOURG, Tate Modern, Polytechnic Museum Moscow, Canadian Centre for Architecture (CCA), Holon Design Museum, The Walker Art Center, National Gallery Singapore and more.
