HLW RECEIVES LA BUSINESS COUNCIL AWARD FOR DESIGN EXCELLENCE OF AGENSYS CANCER RESEARCH LABORATORY
LOS ANGELES, June 2013 – HLW International earned recognition for its design of the Agensys Cancer Research Laboratory in Santa Monica, California. The Los Angeles Business Council recognized the project for “outstanding architecture and design that significantly enhances the Los Angeles community’s urban environment”. The project garnered the 2013 Under Construction Award of Excellence. Agensys, Inc. is an affiliate of Astellas Pharma.

“This research and development facility symbolizes the promise of better days for cancer patients and their families around the globe,” said Dr. Sef Kurstjens, Agensys President and CEO.
The project is a state-of-the-art facility which helps fulfill Astellas’ mission of developing innovative pharmaceuticals for cancer patients with still unmet medical needs. It is targeted for LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Silver certification.
The Agensys campus features a pedestrian pathway, a public café and a public sculpture garden showcasing art by local artists. New art will be rotated annually.
HLW’s design team included Steve Burton, AIA, Principal-in-Charge & Project Manager, David Swartz, AIA, Senior Project Architect/Partner, Carlie Campesi, Design Director – Science & Technology, and Stephanie Baca, Design Director – Interiors.
This Cancer Research Lab in Santa Monica recently won the Under Construction award at the LA Architecture Awards presented by the Los Angeles Business Council.
