Stansted Airport Crossrail Proposal
Location: Uttlesford District, Essex – northeast of London
Together with Michael Shabas and Brian Waters, Avery Associates are proposing a new Crossrail connection to Stansted with a green masterplan for the airport and a new ‘cellular city’ for business and research to relieve pressure on Cambridge, whilst augmenting its international outreach.
Look out for Avery Associates’ contribution to this topical debate.

Avery Associates London
Avery Associates Architects was created by Bryan as an innovative design practice wherein the whole range of built-world issues could be explored and developed. This has led to the development of a philosophy, an attitude to the built-world, that underpins the work of the practice and informs every project.
It is this, plus the lateral thinking capability that results from our research initiatives, that generates the creative impetus and commitment that makes the work of the practice so very distinctive. We have a great depth of experience of different project sizes and building types and our client list is equally diverse.

London Stansted Airport has one main passenger terminal, near the village of Stansted Mountfitchet. Three passenger satellites have departure gates; one is connected to the main terminal by an air bridge and the other two by the Stansted Airport Transit System people mover.
The terminal building was designed by Foster Associates with input from structural engineer Peter Rice.
