John McAslan + Partners’ transformative scheme for a major new development at St Paul’s Girls’ School has won
planning approval.

16.02.2016, London – St Paul’s Girls’ School is one of the UK’s leading schools. The practice was appointed in December 2010 as strategic estate advisers to identify current and future development opportunities for the school’s Brook Green site in west London. The school is predominantly housed in a beautiful Grade II listed building designed by the important Arts and Crafts architect Gerard Horsley in 1904. Over the last hundred years or so, various additions have been made to the site.

The aim of the strategic masterplan has been to ensure that future developments should complement and enhance the
historic buildings, while also providing technology-rich learning environments. The plan has also sought to create greater
space for reflection and relaxation for the students. The proposals include both new structures and interventions within
the existing buildings.

The main new structure will house the sixth form as well as the history and geography departments, while the
reconfigured Forum Building and link space will provide central staff areas, meeting rooms and offices. In addition, the
DT block will be reconfigured to create a new lower ground level. There will also be a new pavilion at the sports field
which will replace the existing inadequate facilities.

Construction of the sports pavilion will commence in April 2016, while the new building on the main site will start on site
in the summer of 2016.

Clarissa Farr, High Mistress of St Paul’s Girls’ School, adds: “This is exciting news – the school is proud of its scholarly
achievements and we will now be able to offer our students an immeasurably enhanced learning and living environment.”
