Text from Ian Simpson Architects 18 Jan 2007:
Lumiere – Leeds
A mixed-use development comprising residential, including serviced apartments, retail and commercial use. The scheme consists of two towers, one that is 171m / 54 storeys high and one that is a 113m / 32 storeys high.
The proposalby Ian Simpson Architects will be a beautiful addition to the skyline of Leeds. It will act as a landmark building, particularly to those arriving at Leeds via the central train station. The massing of the towers seeks to act as a gateway to the city centre while responding to the Park Square Conservation area and the proposed Hermes development, both of which are adjacent to the Lumiere site.
Drivers Jonas Manchester also won planning permission for Beetham Tower in Manchester, the highest residential tower in Europe: Beetham Tower Manchester.
