Location: Abu Ghosh, Jerusalem, Palestine

Located in Abu Ghosh, Jerusalem, this unbuilt residence was designed for an Arab family, drawing inspiration from the cultural values that shape domestic life in the region. The Abu Ghosh Terracotta House project explores how contemporary residential architecture can respond to traditions of privacy, hospitality, and strong family relationships through spatial organization and carefully articulated transitions between public and private areas.
The design is organized around a sequence of interconnected living spaces that encourage daily interaction while preserving the independence of individual family members. Rather than relying on physical separation, the house establishes layers of privacy through the arrangement of volumes, courtyards, and controlled visual connections. Shared spaces form the social core of the residence, while private rooms are positioned to ensure comfort, intimacy, and flexibility.
Natural light and ventilation play a fundamental role in shaping the interior environment. Openings are carefully positioned to maximize daylight while maintaining privacy from the surrounding context, creating bright, naturally ventilated spaces throughout the house. The relationship between indoor and outdoor spaces extends everyday living into landscaped terraces and courtyards, reinforcing the connection between architecture and climate.
The project reinterprets traditional principles of Arab domestic architecture within a contemporary architectural language, proposing a residence that responds to the cultural identity of its users while addressing the environmental and spatial demands of modern family life.
