Now open to the public, the Stuart Weitzman Tennis Complex stands as a dynamic new landmark in Jerusalem’s evolving Sports District. Designed by HQ Architects, the facility is located on the grounds of the Ben B. & Joyce E. Eisenberg Israel Tennis & Education Center.

The new Tennis Complex, designed in collaboration with the Israel Tennis Association, upgrades a longstanding community asset by introducing 9,000 sq.m. of modern, year-round indoor facilities, designed to meet the highest international standards.

The two-story sports facility features six tennis courts on the upper level, four of them covered – a first for the city – enabling uninterrupted play throughout all seasons and allowing games and tournaments to take place even during rainy winters or hot summer periods that were previously unsuitable for play. The Tennis and Sports Complex’s natural ventilation systems maintain optimal indoor climate conditions for both players and spectators.

The building’s curved exterior wall is designed with a slim, vertical slatted aluminum system that allows natural light and air to enter while providing protection from rain and maintaining a shaded interior temperature. Upper ventilation openings release warm air, while the slatted façade lets natural light into the facility, creating a bright and comfortable environment for sports. Most indoor courts feature spectator galleries above, offering clear views of the games.

The ground floor is dedicated to sports and includes a gym, squash courts, judo facilities, and athlete accommodations. It also houses a range of supporting amenities, including sports clinics and multi-purpose spaces, creating a holistic recreational environment suitable for both training and community engagement.

As part of a broader urban vision, the previously enclosed site is now open to the public, removing existing barriers and re-integrating the facility into the surrounding urban context. The new Stuart Weitzman Tennis Complex directly faces a future Light Rail station, and incorporates a new commercial front featuring shops and cafes with 1,230 m² of retail space, enhancing street-level activity and ensuring seamless access for the public.

“Our design for the new Stuart Weitzman Tennis Complex in Jerusalem re-imagines the relationship between sport, architecture, and public space,” said Erez Ella, Founding Partner of HQ Architects. “By opening the site to its surroundings and integrating natural light, air, and visibility, we create a state-of-the-art multi-functional sports facility that is both high-performance and community-oriented. We also designed commercial and community sports activities at the lower level in front of the Light Rail station to encourage urban life and financially support the Tennis and Sports Center. The enhanced indoor–outdoor connectivity, enabled by a breathing and visually porous façade, ensures the center functions year-round while inviting the city in. This project reflects our commitment to designing inclusive, sustainable, and resilient spaces that elevate everyday experiences.”

Eyal Taoz, Global CEO Israel Tennis & Education Centers said: “We are deeply grateful for Stuart Weitzman’s extraordinary generosity and enduring belief in the transformative power of sport and education. His vision and commitment have made this remarkable facility possible—an architectural achievement that not only elevates the Israel Tennis & Education Centers to new heights but also strengthens our presence as a leader in sports, education, and community development across Israel. This complex stands as a lasting testament to the hope, resilience, and opportunity that define the spirit of ITEC and the vision of Stuart Weitzman”.

With its upgraded and versatile facilities, the new Stuart Weitzman Tennis Complex in Jerusalem stands as a landmark for Jerusalem’s expanding sports landscape and a proud symbol of the city’s commitment to accessibility, excellence, and sustainable development. Together with the completion of the Green Line, the complex enhances the site’s appeal, aiming to attract thousands of visitors throughout the year, becoming a new urban destination for Jerusalem.

Israel Tennis & Education Centers

The Israel Tennis & Education Centers (ITEC) operate as one of Israel’s largest social-sport organizations, with 24 locations across Israel. Since its founding in 1976, ITEC has transformed the lives of over 500,000 children, using tennis as a vehicle for education, character development, and coexistence. The centers provide every child in Israel—regardless of religion, gender, background, or geographical location—access to tennis instruction combined with educational programming.

Through the game of tennis, the centers foster personal growth and inclusion, while pursuing excellence both in life and on the court. They offer transformative programs to underserved youth in Israel such as empowerment initiatives for at-risk girls, Ethiopian youth programs, and programs connecting Arab and Jewish communities in Israel. ITEC provides a safe and inclusive space for all of Israel’s youth to learn crucial life skills, grow and excel, all through sports.
