Nestled within the close-knit fabric of Ismaili Karimabad Society in Juhapura, Ahmedabad, the Cantilevered Cube House is a bold architectural response to constraint. Designed on a narrow 78′ x 36′ south-facing plot spanning 2,830 sq. ft., the residence unfolds into a 5,150 sq. ft. multi-level home that masterfully balances privacy, openness, and spatial fluidity.

At first glance, the home’s defining gesture is its striking cantilevered form—projecting volumes that appear to float effortlessly. This sculptural expression is not merely aesthetic; it is deeply functional.

A strategically designed west-side vertical wall acts as a climatic buffer, shielding interiors and extended balconies from harsh sunlight while enhancing privacy within the dense neighborhood context. Layered materials such as WPC cladding, exposed concrete textures, and stone finishes lend the façade warmth and depth, reinforcing its contemporary yet timeless identity.

Internally, the design revolves around a dramatic triple-height central cutout—an interpretation of the traditional Indian chowk. Crowned with a skylight, this vertical void becomes the heart of the home, visually and spatially connecting all three levels. Natural light filters through the core, reducing reliance on artificial lighting and creating a dynamic interplay of shadow and volume throughout the day. Glass railings and open passages maintain uninterrupted sightlines, fostering a sense of interconnectedness between common, semi-private, and private zones.

The ground floor is planned as an expansive, fluid layout where the drawing room, dining area, and kitchen align along a 60-foot visual axis. Sliding partitions offer flexibility, allowing spaces to transform from open social settings to intimate zones when required.

Upper floors accommodate spacious bedrooms, each designed with a distinct material palette yet unified by oak laminates, fluted panels, and refined textures. Balconies extend outward, reinforcing the home’s dialogue with light and air.

The second floor embraces wellness and leisure, featuring a yoga room, storage, and a semi-covered open terrace designed for family gatherings. Carefully screened walls ensure shade without compromising ventilation, making outdoor spaces usable throughout the year.

The Cantilevered Cube House is ultimately a study in balance—between boldness and restraint, solidity and lightness, privacy and openness. By transforming spatial limitations into architectural opportunity, the project redefines contemporary urban living, offering not just a home, but a thoughtfully crafted sanctuary.
