AC Hotel Würzburg is now open, with remarkable design by Dutch design agency ‘HDVL Designmakers’.

The AC Hotel Würzburg in Germany has now opened. Since 2019, the Dutch agency HDVL Designmakers has been appointed for the interior design of the entire hotel, including the restaurant and all rooms.
The four-star AC Hotel Würzburg is part of the world’s largest hotel chain: Marriott and falls under the “AC Hotels” collection, managed by the Odyssey Hotel Group. The hotel is centrally located between the Old Town and the University Hospital, within walking distance of the main station and the famous Würzburg Residence. The hotel features 168 rooms, a restaurant, a fitness centre and various meeting and event rooms, making it a perfect location for both business and leisure guests.
“AC Wurzburg is a Marriott brand hotel operated by Odyssey hotel group. ‘HDVL design makers’ awarded the interior design contract in 2019 and worked on the project until opening in 2021.
The first challenge in the design was to reconcile a global brand book with the context of the project. We strongly believe in contextual design as the necessity to create a place with a strong identity. To achieve this, we dived into the story behind the AC brand. AC “celebrates the beauty of classic modern design with its European soul”. The city, on the other hand, is proud of its Baroque history. The Wurzburg residence is a mesmerizing example that is recognized as A UNESCO World Heritage Site. Bingo! The story makes sense now.
Then we organized different functions in porches around central space, inspired by classical architecture. The painted ceiling is a modern reference to the most significant baroque fresco in the world, located in the Wurzburg residence.
The second challenge was the modest budget for such an ambitious project. We embraced this challenge by creating several focal points, telling a cohesive story with a few main characters.
The result is an inclusive luxury hotel for anybody who appreciates timeless beauty and for an owner that does not have to update the interior in a few years to come. Over the past two years, there has been close collaboration with the Odyssey Hotel Group about the concept direction and the appearance of the design. “Last month we opened our AC in Würzburg, Germany. A beautiful hotel with many surprising elements. I am very proud of all teams that made this happen.” says Rick van Erp, CEO of the Odyssey Hotel Group.
HDVL Designmakers is proud of the finalization of the project and the opening of the four-star hotel yesterday. In the coming period they will focus on workplace design projects with HNK Alexanderpoort as the newest addition. The accommodation opened on 1st November 2021.
