Architect Adrian Smith advises that no new habitable floors will be added to the tower, giving a stronger idea of this secretive skyscraper project’s final appearance.
So far 160 floors of the Burj Dubai tower have been completed. The skyscraper is already the tallest man-made structure in the world, since 7 April 2008. News reports suggest 162 floors will be built.

The focus now will be on building four steel-framed communications floors and the steel spire above. Amazingly this might be up to 70 storeys high, pushing the skyscraper’s final height beyond 800m.
Before the tower reached 629 metres in height the world’s tallest building record was held by the KVLY-TV Mast, North Dakota, USA.
Adrian Smith helps run Chicago architecture practice Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill. Previously he ran another Chicago architects office – Skidmore Owings and Merrill (SOM) won the design competition for this UAE skyscraper in 2003.
