ISOP Boarding House, Paphos Building Design
We designed the building with function and efficiency in mind. The form and layout evolved from a desire to connect the interior with the exterior for air and light. The single room was used as a building block for the building, with the structural grid, circulation spaces, services, and cladding system, all designed around the needs of the room.
The building is laid out along the road in an L-shape that achieves two things: a. it exposes most of its facades to the sun, east, west, or south to maximise access to sunlight and daylight. b. it surrounds the space to the side of the building and separates it from the road, to create a secure, shared courtyard that offers opportunities for recreation and play.
Designed for single occupancy, the rooms offer enough activity space as well as bespoke, durable furniture for study, storage, and sleep. It includes a large wardrobe, bookshelf, large desk with drawers, and under-the-bed storage, to keep the room clutter-free.
A large sliding window allows for adequate ventilation and access to sunlight and daylight, with a safety mechanism that limits the opening width. The rooms include en-suite shower rooms Perforated opening screens are provided outside of the windows. They are controlled by a centralised automated system that closes them up during the night for increased privacy and security.
