Brisbane movie-goers will soon be able to enjoy a luxurious cinema experience as the Hawthorne Deluxe Precinct enters the final stages of a $3.5 million refurbishment on the corner of Hawthorne Road and Lindsay Street.

The new cinema will boast 64 Deluxe seats, a state-of-the-art sound system and a full kitchen and bar for patrons to sit back and relax in style. Works are expected to finish early in 2016.

Acclaimed Australasian design firm The Buchan Group was appointed by Cineplex Australia in 2013 to manage the architectural design of the new site, including the master planning concepts through to construction, graphics and signage components.

The Buchan Group Director Todd Crighton said there was a clear need to update the existing precinct to deliver a modern and exciting retail and entertainment space for residents.

“The new deluxe cinema has been based around an existing pre-1900 Queensland cottage which has been raised and repurposed to build this new, two level retail and hospitality offering,” Mr Crighton said.

“The project is anchored by this reused house, refurbishment works were conscious of honouring and taking into consideration the pre-existing architecture and feel of the original site’s design.

“The design celebrates the characteristic features, place specific materials and strong community atmosphere of the site and its surrounds, which includes the Hawthorne Cineplex theatre on the opposite side of the street.
