Juazeiro do Norte, 2025 – Designed by Lins Arquitetos Associados, the Domum School campus organizes an extensive program—from early childhood to high school—through a site strategy that shields the building from the west sun and creates a large central courtyard as the heart of social life. Spanning 3,700 m², the project emerges from a direct response to the local climate and the pursuit of open, ventilated and integrated learning environments.
Located on a corner lot with north- and west-facing fronts, the building occupies the perimeter of the site to generate shade and enhance the interior areas, where leisure and circulation are concentrated. Classrooms are oriented toward the east and north to ensure stable natural lighting, while the sports court opens to the west under the protection of a metal roof that minimizes direct heat gain. This strategy integrates environmental performance, comfort and efficient use of educational spaces.
The program is distributed across three floors. On the ground level, the main entrance connects to the integration plaza, the auditorium, the administrative sector and the parking area. The first floor brings together the cafeteria, the sports court, part of the classrooms and the early childhood sector. The second floor hosts the library, laboratories and new classrooms, remaining partially unbuilt to allow future expansions. Vertical and horizontal circulation is resolved through ramps and stairways arranged in successive landings, a solution adopted to navigate the site’s four-meter slope.
This pathway shapes the central courtyard—the heart of the school—an irregular space that brings together an amphitheater, seating areas and gentle routes that encourage discovery and interaction among students of different ages. More than a link between levels, the courtyard functions as a gathering space, enriching daily school life with a playful dimension.
Materiality reinforces the construction’s robustness and simplicity: reinforced concrete structure, ceramic masonry, industrial flooring and, in the courtyard, interlocking pavers. Primary colors applied over a white base create a clear and light visual identity, bringing vibrancy to circulation and learning spaces.
Thermal comfort strategies respond directly to the Cariri climate: metal shading for the court’s west façade, perforated elements along circulation paths, cobogó screens in the early childhood gardens and light shelves that enhance natural illumination in the classrooms. The building maintains a direct relationship with its surroundings, enclosed only by a metal fence that preserves visual permeability and ventilation—making the school open, inviting and integrated with the street.

Founded in 2011 by Cíntia, George, Jorge and Deborah Lins, the office is based in Juazeiro do Norte, in the Cariri region of Ceará. Working across all scales—from urban design to furniture—the practice is guided by a fundamental principle: respect for the place of intervention.
