The hotel, Sir Hotels’ sixth outpost, celebrates a Catalan lifestyle influenced by the sun, sea and mountains.
Sir Hotels, the Amsterdam-based boutique hotel collection, opens Sir Victor Hotel in Barcelona. Located between the architecturally-diverse and sought after Gràcia and Eixample districts and set in a contemporary landmark by local architecture firm Capella Garcia, Sir Victor creates a Catalan-inspired oasis in the heart of the city. The hotel features 91 rooms and suites, The Rooftop bar and restaurant which features a plunge pool, multi-functional event and meeting spaces such as The Study and The Studios, a shop, the award-winning modern steakhouse MR PORTER and a tranquil wellness area and spa complete with an indoor pool.
“Sir Victor takes inspiration from Barcelona and its wider region – the city, the people, the nature and culture. Through the integration of design, art and multifunctional spaces, we hope to bring something new and exciting to one of the most vibrant cities in Europe.” Liran Wizman, founder and owner of Sir Hotels.
Design Inspired by the Seaside and the Mountains
Sir Hotels enlisted their long-time collaborators, interior design and architecture studio Baranowitz + Kronenberg to head the design of the multifaceted ground floor space. Building on Sir Hotel’s philosophy of connecting to the local environment, B+K took inspiration from the diverse natural landscape of Barcelona – the bright Mediterranean coastline to the rough mountainous terrain of Mount Sant Llorenç Natural Park.
Creating a ‘journey through landscapes’, B+K introduce multiple environments reminiscent of Barcelona’s two sides – upon entering the light filled, oak floored reception area, visitors feel a bright playfulness complemented by an oversized Carrara marble pool table and suspended, spherical Bocci lighting. Continuing deeper into the hotel, earthier tones create a more intimate, intriguing ambiance leading to MR PORTER. Padded banquettes complemented by large circular ceiling lights and dark walnut furniture adorn the restaurant while textures and materials such as beveled marble, black leather and copper surfaces create a rich, stimulating palette.
The design concept of contrasting landscapes continues throughout the hotel, with interiors conceived by Sir Hotels’ in-house design team. Rooms incorporate a neutral color palette and wooden furniture by B&B Italia and Cassina. Giving ode to the local culture and craftspeople, Nani Marquina’s contemporary, handmade rugs are featured alongside abstract paintings from local artist Bernat Daviu in each room.
Connecting to the City
Building on the locally inspired design narrative, Sir Victor connects to the vibrant lifestyle and community of the region through unique programming and amenities, providing locals and visitors an authentic insight to the Catalan capital.
Live music performances by local artists will invigorate The Rooftop, offering guests a chance to cool down by the pool while taking in the sweeping panoramic views of the city, the iconic Casa Milà and La Sagrada Familia while enjoying a menu of light tapas, signature cocktails, locally-brewed Kombucha and fresh Kefir smoothies.
For guests looking for a quieter space, The Study features plush seating and repurposed wooden tables as well as a curated collection of books dedicated to the legacy of Caterina Albert i Paradís, one of Catalonia’s most respected feminist authors of the 19th century. She was known under her penname Victor Català, the inspiration for the name ‘Sir Victor’.
Providing guests with a deeper way to connect to the city, Sir Victor launches Sir Hotels’ signature out-of-the-box experiences, Sir Explore. Hosted by city residents, experiences include an ‘off-the-grid’ tour of some of Barcelona’s lesser known modernist architectural masterpieces and a gastronomic adventure tasting local delicacies and exploring the small alleys of Barcelona.
Continuing its commitment to the creative community of the region, the ground floor at Sir Victor is host to a shop showcasing a curated selection of Barcelona’s independent and emerging designers, including carefully crafted pieces by Gonzalo Cutrina, Ölend, Hey Studio, Curated By and Lydia Delgado.
