Civic Trust Awards – Background
The Civic Trust Awards is an independent built environment awards scheme established in 1959 to recognise the very best in architecture, design, planning, landscape and public art. Civic Trust Awards are given to projects of the highest quality design, but only if they are judged to have made a positive contribution to the local community. As one of the longest standing built environment awards in Europe, The Civic Trust have rewarded over 5,500 projects during the last 50 years.
The Civic Trust Awards will recognise each of the projects on the shortlist by presenting them with either and Award or Commendation:
Awards – are given to projects that are of benefit culturally, socially or economically whilst making an outstanding contribution to the quality and appearance of the environment. Winners of Civic Trust Awards receive a certificate and a plaque for permanent display on the award-winning site.
Commendations – are given to projects that are of benefit culturally, socially or economically whilst making a valuable contribution to the quality and appearance of the environment. Winners receive a certificate.
All entries achieving Award standard are automatically considered for a particular Sponsored Award if they are strong in that particular area.
