The Courtauld Institute of Art London Renewal
The transformation of The Courtauld Institute of Art in London is one of six projects which have been shortlisted for the 2023 RIBA Stirling Prize, the UK’s highest accolade in architecture. The prize is awarded to the best architectural project of the last 12 months. Designed by award-winning architects Witherford Watson Mann with exhibition design by Nissen Richards Studio, The Courtauld’s redevelopment has revitalised and opened up the magnificent building conceived by Sir William Chambers in the late 1770s to create an inspiring setting for the 21st century.

Like a serene white mass integrated into the hill this new building revitalizes the region which is mostly composed of monotonous high-rises apartments and provides a nature-friendly cultural space in which the green flow of the park integrates with the art museum to become a single entity.

This new project has been conceived to fulfil the Foundation’s vision of showcasing the growing Koç collection to the broadest possible audience and to place these works in a national, regional and international context of contemporary artists. The Museum is due to be open to the public in 2016. Grimshaw’s winning proposal was selected from a long-list of 20 world-renowned entries.

Groundbreaking news for the renovation and expansion of the Westmoreland Museum of American Art, located in Greensburg, Pennsylvania, designed by Susan T. Rodriguez of Ennead Architects. The design creates a new face and identity for the original neo-Georgian building, which enhances the Museum’s link to the City. The L-shaped massing of the expanded building features a new south-facing façade that visually frames the original brick building and forms a linear porch along its length.

This new building has received the architectural award for the Best Cultural Building of 2013 under the Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland’s annual awards programme. The Town Clerk of Athlone Town Council stated “the Luan gallery is located in a superb setting in the centre of Athlone and targets national and international projects to bring a varied and engaging arts programme to the people of Athlone. The town council is delighted that the gallery has been awarded the best cultural building of 2013 and congratulate Keith Williams Architects on their design”.

Designed as a permanent show gallery and tourist information center for China’s largest developer Vanke, MOD’s dramatic design for the TRIPLE V GALLERY has become an icon along the Dong Jiang Bay coastline. “Despite its obvious sculptural qualities, the building’s DNA evolved rationally from a careful analysis of key contextual & programmatic perimeters”.
