Studio Mackereth, formed in 2013

Sally Mackereth graduated from the Architectural Association, before setting up the award-winning practice Wells Mackereth in 1995.

Studio Mackereth is a collective of architects and designers specialising in luxury retail, commercial and high-end residential projects.
She was featured in the Daily Telegraph’s online magazine Luxury, which named the practice as one of the six best architectural practices working in London. The architecture practice also work on jewellery and furniture design.

After 18 years of running a partnership, Wells Mackereth, the partners James and Sally have amicably agreed to go their separate ways. They have individually set up two new separate companies.

The design team is based in Farringdon. Joanna Scott joined the practice in 2013 as Marketing Director. Jo has over 20 years experience specialising in communications and media relations for the creative industries.

The original architecture practice was founded by James in 1995, and focused on the design of private houses, retail, bar and restaurant projects, commercial and residential developments and arts projects. The design practice grew to 12 staff and completed more than 180 built projects.

Sally Mackereth and James Wells are the co-founders of Wells Mackereth, a London-based studio known for its refined, narrative-driven approach to architecture and interiors.

Together, they have shaped the practice’s distinctive identity, combining architectural rigor with a strong sensitivity to atmosphere, materiality, and context. Their work often focuses on adaptive reuse and hospitality environments, where existing structures are reinterpreted through contemporary interventions.
