Finnish Design Shop, Turku
Finnish Design Shop is the world’s largest online store of Nordic design. The company’s fast growth accelerated during the pandemic, as physical stores needed to close their doors. The new building, headquarters of the company, comprises a logistics center delivering products to over one hundred countries, a showroom, and a restaurant.

The client is a Finnish craft producer of spirits that started from scratch but is rapidly expanding after winning several international prizes including the best gin & tonic in 2015.

Sauna Kyly – Habitare 09 Sauna design competition winner

Sauna Kyly
This competition entry by Avanto Architects won Habitare 09 Sauna design competition for young architects and designers. The project was selected among the 12 most interesting exhibits in the design fair by interior journalists. Kyly is an old Karelian word: it means sauna or bathing. It was also selected “best in show” as Forum magazine judged the sauna to be the best innovation at Habitare.
Habitare is located in Tradate and in Balerna, Switzerland.

Ville Hara (born 1974), architect, SAFA
Studies in Finland at Helsinki University of technology and in France at Ecole d’Architecture Paris-Belleville, graduated 2002. Has worked in France, Croatia and Germany (Sauerbruch Hutton Architects), 1999-2004 at SARC Architects. From 2004 own office avanto architects with Anu Puustinen and teacher at HUT.
Awards:
Nomination for Mies van der Rohe Prize 2003; Archiprix 2003: honourable mention, participants’ favourite; Wuorio Price 2003; Ar+d Emerging Architecture Price 2003; 2006 Bryggman prize; 2006 Vähäkallio scholarship; 2007 State artist grant; Leonardo 2007, Minsk, Belarus, best built one family house

This new Finnish building is a 14 sqm cabin for the 4-person Palva architect family was built in Lauttasaari, only two kilometres from the family home and the parents’ workplace.

Three buildings perching on a rock in a new neighbourhood in Helsinki, Viikinmäki. The emerging suburban neighbourhood next to a river has a steep topography that gives it a unique character.
