The West Kowloon Cultural District Authority (“WKCDA”) announced today a shortlist of seven design teams that have been invited to submit technical proposals for the development of Hong Kong’s first art-themed park, 14 hectares of landscaped public space for arts and culture at the West Kowloon Cultural District, by the waterfront in Kowloon.
The proposal is a Joint Venture where Gustafson Porter, Michel Desvigne Paysagiste and Foster + Partners form one team which the designers believe brings the best talents to this project. Two internationally renowned firms would lead on the landscape design of the development: Gustafson Porter and this French firm. They are both at the pinnacle of their careers. They have both recently won international awards for their innovative design work and execution.
The landscape team of Gustafson Porter and Desvigne will bring an international standard of excellence and experience to every layer of the park’s development to create a unique and world-class destination in the city. The two firms will bring different strengths and qualities to the development of the project.
Desvigne has a reputation for creating landscapes that have evolved from the geographical scale, resist formal composition and through their simplicity, hint at transient landscapes that can accommodate change.
Gustafson Porter deliver spatially articulate and technically refined landscape environments by sculpting the ground plain.
