The urban layout of the International School is structurally modelled on the typical Cretan village centre. In accordance with this, the spatial limits of the buildings, concurrent with the topographic edge of the auditorium, form a central square, namely the school yard. This will be made accessible via a network of small streets and lanes. The main entrance is effected by way of the central lane from the access road where the school bus stop is situated.

me di um Architekten is a German architecture practice based in Hamburg, founded in 1970 (originally as “Planungsgruppe me di um”) and later evolving into its current form as an independent design office.
The studio is known for its long-standing focus on public, educational, and cultural architecture, often working on schools, libraries, housing, and civic buildings across Germany and other parts of Europe. Over time, the practice has developed a reputation for functional clarity and contextual design, with projects that respond carefully to urban and social environments rather than relying on a singular stylistic signature.
A notable aspect of me di um Architekten’s work is its emphasis on urban integration and spatial organization, frequently using architectural composition to strengthen public life and communal interaction. Their projects tend to prioritize usability, durability, and a clear relationship between built form and everyday use.
The office has also evolved through different partnerships and organizational phases, reflecting a collaborative practice model that has been active for decades within the German architectural landscape. Today, it continues to contribute to contemporary discourse through both realized projects and competition work, particularly in the fields of education and institutional architecture.
