Adelaide Oval is widely regarded as the most picturesque Test cricket ground in the world, with St Peter’s Cathedral rising behind the elegant Edwardian scoreboard and Moreton Bay fig trees at the northern end, the Mount Lofty Ranges to the east, and nearby city skyline to the south.
Perth stadium, Western Australia
Thursday 7 August 2014 m- Winning new Perth stadium design revealed
According to this Australian architecture practice, “The new Perth Stadium will be a world-class five-tiered stadium with roof coverage over 85 per cent of its seats, a striking bronze facade that reflects Western Australia’s unique geology, LED lights that show home sports team colours, and a wide range of ‘fans first’ facilities including two of the largest video screens in the country. The WESTADIUM consortium architectural team consists of HASSELL, Cox Architecture and HKS Sport + Entertainment.
The design of the sporting and recreation precinct surrounding the stadium is inspired by Dreamtime stories and the connection with the Swan River, and will have three distinct recreational spaces encouraging use by the community all year round. A covered Community Arbour, linking the new six-platform stadium station to the river, will represent Noongar community stories.”

HASSELL Cox Architects refers to the collaborative design partnership between Hassell and Cox Architecture — two major Australian architectural and design firms that have worked together on major civic and sports projects in Australia.
Although not a permanent independent firm under that combined name, HASSELL Cox became known through significant joint commissions where the strengths of both practices were brought together on large‑scale architecture and urban design works.
Notable Collaborative Work:
– Adelaide Oval Redevelopment: In past iterations, the partnership contributed to significant sporting precinct work.
– Perth Stadium (Optus Stadium): A major stadium project designed by a consortium including Hassell, Cox Architecture, and other partners.
– Ongoing Major Stadium Commissions: Hassell and Cox continue to be appointed as co‑design consultants on projects such as the new Brisbane 2032 Olympic Stadium.
